Welcome to Heritage Psychiatry
At Heritage Psychitry, we strive to understand each patient as an individual, with a unique background, social circumstances, and psychiatric and medical conditions. We specialize in diagnosing and treating a number of conditions including but not limited to: Depression, mood disorders, ADD/ADHD, addiction (drug, alcohol, sexual), panic and anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, eating disorder, personality disorders (obsessive compulsive, narcissistic), and identity disorders.
Depression and Mood Disorders
Four basic forms of mood disorders are major depression, cyclothymia (a mild form of bipolar disorder), SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and mania (euphoric, hyperactive, unrealistic optimism.). Depression and mood swings are a common complaint for those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Sometimes these moods are just part of life, sometimes they are more problematic and are symptoms of Depression or Bipolar Disorder (manic depression).
Drug and Alcohol Addiction
Addiction is a complex disorder characterized by compulsive alcohol or drug use. While each drug produces different physical effects, all abused substances share one thing in common: repeated use can alter the way the brain looks and functions. Excessive alcohol use, including underage drinking and binge drinking, can lead to increased risk of health problems such as injuries, violence, liver diseases, and cancer. As with many other conditions and diseases, vulnerability to addiction differs from person to person.
ADD and ADHD
Almost all children have times when their attention or behavior veers out of control. However, for some children, these types of behaviors are more than an occasional problem. Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have behavior problems that are so frequent and severe that they interfere with their ability to function adequately on a daily basis. ADHD and ADD symptoms can cause problems at home, school, work, and in relationships.
Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. But when anxiety becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations, it has become a disabling anxiety disorder. Panic Attacks are sudden surges of overwhelming fear that comes without warning or any obvious reason. It is far more intense than having anxiety. People who have full-blown, repeated panic attacks can become very disabled by their condition and should seek treatment before they start to avoid places or situations where panic attacks have occurred.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide an introduction to Dr. Gayatri Singh and Heritage Psychiatry. As you probably know already, a psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. As part of their evaluation and treatment of the patient, psychiatrists are authorized to prescribe psychiatric medication, conduct physical examinations, order and interpret laboratory tests and electroencephalograms.
At Heritage Psychiatry, we specialize in diagnosing and treating the following: Depressive and Bipolar Disorders (major and minor, dysthymia, bereavement, bipolar types I and II); Anxiety Disorders (generalized, panic, post-traumatic stress, acute stress reactions, neuroticism, obsessive-compulsive disorder); Psychosis (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder); Addiction (Drug and Alcohol) including treatment of opiate addiction with Suboxone; Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD and ADHD); etc.

Drug and substance use can cause problems at work, home, school, and in relationships, leaving you feeling isolated, helpless, or ashamed. People experiment with drugs for many different reasons.
During a meeting at work -- especially a long meeting -- it can be tempting to play the psychiatrist. Look around the room and think to yourself, "My boss must be obsessive-compulsive." "Our receptionist has ADHD."
